Western Luas Extention…not for another very very long while!
For your information, this is the motion from Cllr Vincent Jackson and agreed by us all.
“As the West of the City have very poor public transportation services like the coastal regions of the City, that Dublin City Council impress upon the Dept. of Transport to put back on the table the previous plan to put a new Luas line outfrom the City Centre towards Lucan to service Inchicore, Bluebell, Ballyfermot, Clondalkin and Lucan. I regret TFI has forgotten that the West of the City and County exist resulting in horrific levels of private cars using limited road space and the result is chronic traffic congestion”
This is the answer from the NTA.
“The National Development Plan 2018-2027 (page 54) states the following in relation to further Luas extensions:-
“In line with the National Transport Authority’s Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2016-2035, undertake appraisal, planning and design of Luas network expansion to Bray, Finglas, Lucan, Poolbeg and a light rail corridor for Cork in the later stages of the period of the Cork Transport Strategy which is being finalised.”
Accordingly, it is intended to undertake the planning and design of the Luas network expansion during the period of the current National Development Plan, which runs up to 2027. A decision on the implementation of that expansion will then be a matter for the subsequent National Development Plan.
It is the intention that Transport Infrastructure Ireland will commence early stage planning and design work on Luas Lucan later in 2020. This will entail route corridor assessment to determine a shortlist of routes with a view to selecting an emerging preferred route for public consultation purposes. This work is at scoping stage and as such the timelines for progress through these early stages have not yet been developed.”
